Abstract
Fasting serum gastrin levels were measured by Radioimmunoassay in 20Non-ulcer control subjects, 5 patients with gastric ulcer, 9 patients with Duodenal ulcer and healing was measured by Gastrofiberscopy after treatment with Ranitine.
Fasting serum gastrin levels were measured by serially before and after treatment with Ranitidine for 1 Month.
The results were follows ;
1. The ratio of male to female were 5 : 0 in gastric ulcer 8 : 1 in duodenal ulcer. In sexual distribution, male was predominant.
2. In age distribution, mean age was 50 in gastric ulcer and 47 in duodenal ulcer. So In age distribution, 40,50 was predominant.
3. Patients with peptic ulcer had fasting serum gastrin level (Gastric ulcer ; 49.6¡¾8.2pg/ml, Duodenal ulcer ; 32.30¡¾3.7pg/ml) similar to those observed in non-ulcer Control subjects (41. 70¡¾6.9 pg/ml).
4. Fasting serum gastrin levels were not significantly altered before and after medication with Ranitidine in patients with gastric ulcer (57.0¡¾3.0 pg/ml) and duodenal ulcer (36.89¡¾5.7 pg/ml). (P value£¾ 0.05) .
5. Healing rate after treatment with Ranitidine was 87.5% in patients with gastric ulcer and 93.5% with duodenal ulcer Therefore, It is suggested that gastric activity did not directly correlated with fasting serum gastrin level and Ranitidine is very effective drug for ulcer.
